Business Background

A Guangzhou engineering equipment trading company needed to ship a used SANY excavator (80% new) to Bangkok for a local infrastructure project. The client heard that Shippingwhale Logistics has a lot of experience moving construction machinery to Southeast Asia, especially with used equipment export and destination clearance. They asked us to handle the full FCL ocean shipment and related services.

Business Process

The cargo was a used yellowANY excavator. Overall dimensions: 5925 mm (L) × 2005 mm (W) × 2630 mm (H to top of arm), weight: 6000 kg.

Given the used equipment specifics, exact dimensions and weight, and Thailand's unique clearance requirements, we set up a door-to-door solution: domestic trucking, container stuffing and securing, export declaration, direct ocean freight, destination clearance, and final delivery.

Step 1. We assigned a point person to confirm equipment details, the load port (Guangzhou), discharge port (Bangkok), delivery deadline, and signed the contract.
Step 2. Trucking & gate-in: A flatbed trailer moved the excavator from the client’s warehouse to the Guangzhou port yard. We checked the machine's condition and dimensions at the gate, and collected the used equipment paperwork.
Step 3. Container loading & securing: We used a 40-foot high cube (40HQ). After measuring the machine, we loaded it and secured it inside.

Export Customs Declaration & Documentation

  • We obtained the used equipment export license and pre-shipment inspection certificate (CCIC).
  • Prepared a full customs package: commercial invoice, packing list, contract, customs power of attorney, equipment photos, and certificate of origin.
  • Monitored the declaration and got the release notice.

Ocean Freight & Tracking

  • Booked a direct FCL vessel to Bangkok, with transit time under two weeks.
  • Provided vessel name voyage number, and bill of lading. Tracking updates were pushed through the Shipping Whale system so the client could see the cargo’s location.

Destination Clearance & Delivery

  • Sent all clearance documents to our Thai customs broker ahead of time for pre-review and translation.
  • After arrival, handled import customs and paid duties/taxes.
  • Arranged local heavy-haul transport to move the excavator to the client’s designated site, where inspection and handover were completed.

FCL Ocean Freight Notes

Q1: Any special requirements for loading a used excavator in a container?

  • The machine must be clean — no heavy oil stains or mud — to meet Thailand's import hygiene standards.
  • The boom should be locked in its lowest position, bucket retracted, to reduce the profile and lower the center of gravity.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid accidental starts. Keep fuel below 1/4 tank for maritime safety.
  • The lashing and bracing plan must be done by a professional and meet international maritime safety standards so the machine doesn’t shift during transit.

Q2: information do you need before quoting?

  • Basics: load port, discharge port, target ship date.
  • Equipment specs: dimensions (L×W×H), weight, brand/model, year of manufacture, working hours.
  • Condition: overall condition of the used machine, maintenance history, engine and frame numbers.
  • Documents: can you provide the export license, pre-shipment inspection certificate, original invoice, or other supporting papers?
  • Special needs: door-to-door delivery at destination, or assistance getting a Thai import license.
